Bill Jefferies Family Member Award Criteria

Who is Eligible?

  • Candidates must have or have had a family member with schizophrenia.
  • Candidates must have given their time, talent and energy to help their fellow family members and/or persons with schizophrenia in their journey of recovery with this illness.
  • Candidates must have undertaken such activities on a voluntary basis

Who can nominate a Candidate?

  • A member from a schizophrenia provincial organization or national board of directors or any staff of the SSC, provincial societies or chapters may nominate for this award.
  • Nominators may not nominate more than one candidate in this category annually.
  • Nominators may not nominate members of their own family.
  • Members of the award committee may not nominate anyone or be nominated as a candidate.
  • All nomination forms must include signed confirmation of support from one endorser. Staff may formally endorse but may not nominate a candidate.

Initiatives/Programs Of Excellence Award Criteria

What is Eligible?

An initiative/program of excellence in areas of public awareness and education, advocacy, family support or fundraising.

Who can nominate a program/initiative?

  • A member from a schizophrenia provincial organizations or a provincial or national board of directors or anyone else may nominate for this award.
  • All nomination forms must include signed confirmation of support from one endorser. Staff may formally endorse but may not nominate a candidate.

Media Award Criteria

Who is Eligible?

  • Any member of the print or electronic media (i.e. radio, TV, video production).

Who can nominate a Candidate?

  • A member from a schizophrenia provincial organization, or the provincial or national board of directors; including others from the media community may nominate for this award.
  • Nominators may not nominate more than one candidate in this category annually.
  • Nominators may not nominate members of their own family.
  • Members of the awards committee may not nominate anyone or be nominated as a candidate.

Michael Smith Award For Schizophrenia Criteria

Who is Eligible?

  • Candidates must be working in the field of schizophrenia research and/or be a practicing clinician (i.e. nurse, psychiatrist, community mental health worker, psychologist, researcher, etc.) in the field of schizophrenia.
  • Candidates must support the mission, goals and objectives of the SSC.
  • Candidates must have given of their time, talent and energy to assist the organization in achieving SSC’s mission.

Who can nominate a Candidate?

  • A member of a schizophrenia provincial organization or the provincial or national board; including other researchers, health care workers, etc. may nominate for this award.
  • Nominators may not nominate more than one candidate in this category annually.
  • Nominators may not nominate members of their own family.
  • Members of the awards committee may not nominate anyone or be nominated as a candidate.

  • Any member of a schizophrenia provincial or national organization, a provincial or national board, or any professional who has made an exceptional contribution to the cause and cure of schizophrenia.

Recovery Of Hope Award For Schizophrenia Criteria

Who is Eligible?

  • Candidate must be a person who has schizophrenia or psychosis.
  • Candidates must have shown exceptional courage and determination to meet personal goals regarding:
    • Education
    • vocational and skill development
    • family and/or peer involvement
    • participation in community activities as a volunteer
  • Candidates who have shown that there really is hope for schizophrenia and that recovery is possible, in spite of the barriers that they face every day. That hope may be shown in the form of public speaking, support to others, or any other method by which their knowledge or expertise has made a difference in the area of schizophrenia. Some of these candidates will have given their time to helping schizophrenia societies dispel the myths and misconceptions about schizophrenia.
